When Emotions Get Stuck

Plug into your community

Community is an integral part of life, and especially so when we choose to live life without alcohol. If you’re feeling stuck, plug back into the community that supports you and your choices. If you don’t already have a community like this, there are tons of in-person and virtual communities waiting to support you. Check out the #alcoholfree or #sobercurious tags on Instagram - you’ll find thousands of like minded people in that little corner of the internet alone!

Reconnect with your why

If nothing else, reconnecting with your why is such a valuable tool in our toolbelt. Oftentimes when we feel stuck, or are lingering in an unwanted emotion for longer than we’d like, it’s because we’ve lost sight of why we are pursuing this alcohol-free life in the first place. Reconnecting with your why will help provide a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to get back into motion.

Sometimes “stuck” emotions are an indication of further mental health issues such as clinical depression or anxiety disorders. These experiences are important and may benefit most from therapeutic interventions such as therapy and medication. Contact your medical provider if you have any concerns. If you or someone you know has thoughts of self-harm, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
