What is acceptance?
The notion of accepting distress might feel odd. After all there is nothing pleasant about a distressing situation. Yet, what is distressing about a distressing situation ever brought? If anything, only more distress.
Accepting distress means that you accept the fact that you feel afraid or mad or sad, and realize that it is alright to feel this way. You'll realize that when you accept these emotions, you're taking away their power over you.
The next time you feel sad or angry or afraid, admit it to yourself first. Don't judge yourself or try to change what you feel. Just be present in the moment and allow these feelings to carry on and take its natural course. Watch it come and go as all emotions must. No emotion is forever, no matter how severe.
