Releasing the Past

If you’re hanging on to something that still feels really difficult to work through or let go of, consider a symbolic exercise to release it and move forward. Write it down on paper, and then (safely) burn that piece of paper or put it in a box that you never open again. (Some people call these boxes “God boxes,” symbolizing surrender to a higher power.) Put it down on paper, and then figuratively put it down as well. Take the pieces that shaped you into who you are now, and release the rest.

“Believe that your tragedies, your losses, your sorrows, your hurt happened for you, not to you. And I bless the thing that broke you down and cracked you open because the world needs you open.”
