We’ve talked a little bit about how important our internal body battery is for choosing to live without drinking alcohol—we know that when we run down our battery before the day is done, we hold less energetic capacity for healthy decision making like turning down a glass of wine at 5 p.m. But if you’ve maybe already forgotten about that conversation we had, it’s time to revisit this concept.
We know we can’t eliminate every piece of stress and “busy” in our lives—that’s simply not feasible. But, we can work on shifting our mindset about our time and energy, and we can implement small tweaks to our everyday that simplify things just a bit.
First and foremost, we have to ditch the idea that we must be hyper-productive and “go, go, go” all the time. Say it with me now: “rest is productive, too.” In fact, more countries and businesses are starting to experiment with things like 4-day work weeks and mid-work nap pods because we’re realizing that we simply do better work when we’re not completely fried.
